Guided Sand Bass Trips
Sandies keep a trip busy. They school up, they chase anything that looks like a shad, and when we get on a good school, everybody on the boat gets in on it. They’re a great fish for groups, first-timers, and anyone who likes a bent rod.

About the fish
Most of Texas calls them sand bass. The rulebook calls them white bass, and a lot of us just say sandies or whites. They’re smaller than a hybrid, with a deeper body and thin stripes that usually run unbroken down the side.
They’re one of the fish Lake Bridgeport is known for, and light tackle makes even a small one fun.

Finding the School
Sand bass and hybrids often feed on the same bait, so we’re usually fishing for both. I watch the electronics for schools and keep an eye out for fish busting the surface. When a school comes up, it’s common to have more than one fish on at a time.
When the big hybrid bite is tough, slabbing for sandies is often how we make a box. I’ll have the rods rigged before you step on the boat, and if you’re new to it, I’ll show you exactly what to do.

Who’s on the Boat
Because sandies travel in schools, a good one gives everybody on the boat a shot. I take up to five anglers per trip. For newer anglers, steady bites mean plenty of practice, and that’s usually when fishing starts to get fun.
I fish for sand bass year round. Like hybrids, they move with the bait and the water temperature, so the best spots and times change as the year goes on. Give me a call or text and I’ll tell you how they’ve been biting lately.

Questions from the Boat
Hybrids are bigger and thicker, and their stripes break up along the sides. Sand bass are smaller, with a deeper body and thin, mostly solid stripes. Once you’ve held both, it’s easy to tell them apart.
Slabbing means jigging a heavy metal spoon, called a slab, up and down near the bottom where the fish are holding. It’s one of the most dependable ways to catch sand bass, and it’s easy to learn.
It’s one of the best ways to start. The bites come often, the fish are easy to handle, and I’ll walk you through every step.
From the boat

Hybrid stripers run bigger and pull harder, and they often feed in the same areas as sandies.
Bring the crew. Tell me the date and how many are coming, and I’ll take care of the rest.
